TPD2E007: I confuse ESD protection and surge protection.

Part Number: TPD2E007
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TVS1401

Dear Ti,

Below this schematics is connector of RS485.RS422,RS232.

Fire_Connector_SCH.pdf

422 connector.pdf

That schematics applied ESD & surge protection.

That protection parts refer to below this application note.

For Mass production, I search replace ESD & surge protection part.

TPD2E007 is for RS485.RS422,RS232 like below this application schematics.

Other companies' reference circuit diagrams are applied as ESD parts and surge parts, but TI is a bit confusing because it was applied as one part.

So, I have a question.

Is TPD2E007 for just ESD protector? or it is ESD and Surge protector?

Please, reply for my question.

Thank you.

Best Regards,

Inho Jeon

  • Hello Inho,

TPD2E007 has both ESD and surge protection capabilities. If you look at the datasheet, you will see two standards listed: IEC 61000-4-2 (ESD) and IEC 61000-4-5 (surge). For surge, this device is rated to withstand up to 4.5 A of surge current, per IEC 61000-4-5. You can see the surge waveform in figure 7 below:

However, if you need a device with a higher surge rating, I would recommend TVS1401.

Please let me know if I need to clarify anything.

    Regards,

    Matt Smith
