TPS25814: Current Limit changes

Part Number: TPS25814
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25810

Can you use the I2C to update its PDO register and reduce its advertised operational current below the 500mA USB standard value?

I didn't see a TRM/programming guide for the TPS25814 on your website, if you could provide that it would be extremely helpful.

  • Hello,

    The TPS25814 does not require programming. All of its functionality is listed in the datasheet. The team is working to get the TRM published on ti.com but is not yet available.

    Thanks,

    Emma

  • Hi Emma;

    From the datasheet, it appears the current limit is either 1.5 or 3A.  Can it be set to any other lower values?  Also, is a prelminary version of the TRM avaialble?

  • Hello,

    As in the datasheet, you can either program a 1.5A setting or a 3A setting. If you are looking for more flexibility in current limit setting, I suggest the TPS25810, which also offers the STD current limit (see USB Type-C spec for definition).

    Also just caught the PDO part in your initial question. PDO's are part of USB Type-C PD communication. The TPS25814 is USB Type-C only and does not use PDO's.

    Thanks,

    Emma
