DS90UB953-Q1: Power over data line

Part Number: DS90UB953-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DS90UB954-Q1, DS90UB927Q-Q1, DS90UB928Q-Q1

Hi all,

DS90UB953-Q1 and DS90UB954-Q1 datasheets and other notes you have published on the topic of POC / PODL demonstrate transmission of power from power supply near the deserializer towards the serializer. Is it possible to place the power supply on the serializer side and supply power towards the deserializer?

Is it possible to accomplish transmission of 48V similar to POE?

Does every FPD-Link III SER-DES can support PODL? Specifically DS90UB927Q-Q1 and DS90UB928Q-Q1?

Thanks and regards

  • Hello,

Yes you can send power from the seriaizer side to the deserializer side of the link.  It doesn't matter either way as long as your data link meets the S parameter spec in the datasheet.

Any PoC voltage can be supported as long as your PoC components are rated for it.  With that said typically we don't want to use AC caps rated for much higher that 50V since it would start getting larger in actual size and can affect signal integrity.

Any device can support PoC or PoDL again as long as the channel meets the S-parameter spec in the datasheet.

    Regards,

    Nick
