TCAN1042G-Q1: CAN communication failure

Part Number: TCAN1042G-Q1

Hi,TI

TJA1042 in the attached picture actually uses TCAN1042DRQ1.

Figure 1 shows the CAN circuit of our controller, and Figure 2 shows the CAN circuit of our peripheral board. It is required that a set of CAN circuits (red box) between the controller and the peripheral board should communicate, but now there is a problem that the communication cannot be achieved.

  • Hi Dominic,

Is this a new design or has it this layout worked in the past with the other device?

Can you please verify that both devices' STB inputs (pin 8) are low during the attempted communication. If this pin is asserted high, the transceiver will go into standby mode and its transmitter will be disabled.

Would it be possible to capture oscilloscope shots of the CAN bus (CANH, CANL) and digital pins (TXD, RXD) from the transceiver that is driving communication? I would like to see that both the transmitter and receiver are behaving correctly based on the digital lines and see the integrity of the signal on the CAN bus. Please zoom to a few bit-timings and give CANH and CANL the same offset and scale in the shots so they look similar to Figure 15 on the device datasheet

    Regards,
    Eric Schott
