TPD3S014: usb2 connection for 5V and data -> EMI components needed

Part Number: TPD3S014
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25840-Q1, TPS254900-Q1

Hello USB interface.
Split from original thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management/f/196/t/883196

Please provide some suggestions USB2.0 protection and EMI.

At the moment I develop a new product and need some help with the power components to find the best solution.

- usb2 connection for 5V and data -> EMI components needed

  • Hi ,

Could you consider the TPS25840-Q1 which including the DCDC 5V output and  data communication function ?

  • Hi,

honestly I haven't thought about using BC1.2 yet. But I see that this is the wrong type of controller. I need the EMI-protection for an usb-device. The chip you have suggested is for an usb charging port, isn't it?

At the moment I think of surge, burst and perhaps short circuit or over voltage protection. I know how to build it with discreet parts, but perhaps there is an option for an integrated module and this would be the better way.

    Best regards, Jens Herrgesell

  • Hi,

Yes, the TPS25840-Q1 is for USB charging port .

So the TPD3S014 can meet your requirement or not ? The TPD device can do the ESD protection in dataline (DP/M) but it don't have the EMI function.

You mention should have the surge, burst and OVP. You can refer to TPD3S716 for study.

We have any other part TPS254900-Q1 which for the BC1.2 type A port solution, also have the OVP and ESD function in the dataline.

  • Hi,

I think the TPD3S716 fits perfectly.

Thanks a lot for you help.

    Best regards,

    Jens Herrgesell
