ISO7320C: Question for ISO7320 to support I2C bi-directional communication

Part Number: ISO7320C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7720, ISO1541, TIDA-00809, ISO1640, ISO1641

Hi Team,

We found that ISO7320 can be used for I2C bi-directional communication mentioned in below one TI design, can you help to check how it works?

Thanks.

  • Hi Jacky,

Thank you for posting on E2E! Two-channel digital signal isolators like ISO7320 or ISO7720 (recommended over ISO7320 as it is a newer and more robust isolator) can be used to create an isolated bidirectional signal path as shown in Figure 4 of Designing a reinforced isolated I2C-Bus® interface by using digital isolators (SLYT403a) below:

The discrete components are necessary for bidirectional signal transmission across digital signal isolators to prevent latch-up states from occurring; more information on this configuration can be found in the ADJ article linked above. Since the additional components are not usually convenient or optimal for customers to use, our integrated ISO-I2C devices like ISO1640 / ISO1641, or the older generation ISO1541 as shown in TIDA-00809, are recommended to isolate I2C and other bidirectional signals over standard digital signal isolators.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Respectfully,
    Manuel Chavez
