Hi team,
For traction inverter, can this drive external 6 ISO gates with this EVM GUI?
If not, what EVM and GUI can realize such architecture?

Shoji

Hi Yuya,
I would use this EVM instead: https://www.ti.com/tool/UCC5880INVERTEREVM
The GUI we have can only control two Gate drivers at a time and can only do normal mode. (Not daisy chain or address mode)
The Inverter EVM can be used to drive the Wolfspeed module and you can use the CDD to develop the code. The CDD is an interface that will make it very easy to develop the SPI code. The CDD requires an NDA so please contact our marketing team to get that information and I can help with any questions about the EVM.
Also note that for basic functionality test, the customer can use UCC5880 without SPI. They will be able to check the basic functionality and features without needing any SPI communication. You can find that information here: https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1298470/faq-ucc5880-q1-getting-started-with-ucc5880-q1-without-spi

Hi Akshat,
Thank you for this information.
I'd like to know the way to drive 3-leg(6 arms) inverter with our EVM. So, even if I use UCC5880INVERTEREVM, it's impossible to drive 6 arms, right? Can't UCC5880QEVM-057 be stack (or daisy chain) too?
Best regards,
Shoji
Hi Shoji,
Since each board will drive a half bridge, you can use 3 of those boards. Please refer to this reference design here: https://www.ti.com/tool/TIDM-02014

Hi Akshat,
Yellow board except MCU controller and gate driver modules has to be developed by myself?
I see that CCS contains UCC5880 library, so it is not so hard to combine 3 inverter modules by one, right?
Best Regards,
Shoji
Hi Shoji,
Yes you are right.
We are also developing a CDD (complex device driver) which will help integrate the MCU and driver for any type of SPI - Daisy chain, address, normal mode. It will help with the the development of the SPI code and will make it very easy. Please reach out to our marketing team for more information on this. Also, UCC5880 can be used without SPI for simple use cases. Using this functionality, the engineer can evaluate basic driver performance like drive strength, switching losses with power modules, adjustable gate drive, short circuit protection, etc. The user will be able to speed up the evaluation process since there is no requirement to develop any new code or even connect to a computer.

Hi Akshat,
Thank you for valuable information:)
This thread was forwarded to my customer. So, I'll keep on opening this thread up to 4 weeks so as to have customer additionally question.
