my customer asks if the layout suggestion in datasheet is a good practice, since the pads reach underneath the chip.

    Hey Jan,

    If you are referring to the land pattern drawings at the end of the data sheet, I would say yes. That's TI wide guidance for those packages listed and I would expect a lot of customers use it up till now. This by no means is a requirement, your customer can make their layout any way they see fit.
