Hi E2E,
What is the difference between CD74HCT7046A and CD74HCT4046A? Which is the most suitable device to lock a 1 kHz square wave?Is there a PLL integrated circuit with a sinusoidal waveform VCO output
Regards,
Carlo
Hello Carlo,
The two devices have different types of phase comparators.
The 7046 has a XOR or an JK-FF style comparator, while the 4046 has XOR, JK-FF, or RS-FF styles of phase comparators.
I believe either device would be capable of locking to a 1kHz square wave. There are typical center frequency curves in each of the datasheets that show what R and C values should be used to set the center locking frequency and 1kHz is well within range of either device.

Hello Michael,
Regarding the other question. Is there a PLL integrated circuit with a sinusoidal waveform VCO output? Thank you

Carlo
Carlo,
My apologies for overlooking the second part of the question.
All of the devices we have under Digital timing ICs | Products | Specialty logic ICs | TI.com are digital and do not have analog or sine wave outputs.
