TXB0108: TXB0108

Part Number: TXB0108
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74AHCT541, TXU0304, TXU0104, SN74LVC1G17

Hello Texas Instruments Team,

Please, I would like to know if I can use this component as indicated in the schematic, with one signal received at 5V towards 3V3, and the other 7 signals received at 3V3 towards 5V.

Best regards,

Rafael

  • Maybe.

The TXB has very restrictive limitations on the input drive strength and the output load (see section 8 of the datasheet). If you have no long traces, cables, connectors, or pull-up/-down resistors, then it can work.

Your signals are not bidirectional, so you do not actually need an auto-bidirectional translator. A unidirectional or direction-controlled translator would be cheaper and more robust. You could combine a TXU0104 and a TXU0304, if they are available. Alternatively, use a buffer with overvoltage-tolerant input (e.g., SN74LVC1G17) for the USART_RX, and a buffer with TTL-compatible inputs (e.g., SN74AHCT541) for the ANODE signals.

  • Thank you Clemens, I really liked your suggestion. The TXU0104 and the TXU0304 are perfect for for my application.
