SN74LXCH8T245: 3.3V to 5V level shifter for a MAC to Physical of Ethernet

Part Number: SN74LXCH8T245
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXS0102

Hi Team,

The datasheet of LXC level translators states that it can operate up to 480Mbps. Our customer is looking for a 3.3V to 5V level shifter for a MAC to Physical of Ethernet. According to our customer, he is using RMII so he needs 1 bi-directional ( MDIO line), 4 uni-directional for TX and 4 uni-directional for RX. Can you please confirm if the LXC level translators can support this application? If not, can you please suggest an alternative?

Regards,

Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

The correct setup will depend heavily on the customer's implementation of both MDIO and RMII.

Do we know what clock speed they are using for each? What loading?

If we don't know anything, I would start by recommending TXS0102 for the MDIO communication and possibly LXC for the RMII. Considering that they would need two devices to handle that (one for each direction), that's probably not the best solution.

  • Hi Emrys,

Thank you for your response. We have received this feedback from our customer,

I am really looking for something that will solve my transmission problem entirely, would the TXB0108PWR work for RMII Ethernet at 100mbps with a clock rate of 50 MHz?

Or perhaps the TXB0108PWR for the data lines and clock and then TXS0102 for the MDIO and MDC lines?

    Regards,

    Danilo

  • Hi Danilo,

will solve my transmission problem entirely

What is the problem they are encountering? On what type of transmission lines? Under what loading? What kind of driver is being used?
