Hi Team,
Customer wants to verify this, max rating shows input cannot be over 7V max, however, in the note1, it seems to imply input voltage can be higher than 7V as long as input current less than 20mA, is it true?
Anything else needs to be aware of if customer must operating with input voltage over 7V? Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
I highlighted the key factors here. The input clamp current value is only valid for V_I < 0. This does not apply to V_I > V_CC, so there is no positive clamp diode and the device cannot support inputs in excess of 7V.

If the customer is looking for a device that does include positive clamp diodes, try the SN74HCS541. Note that we do not recommend exceeding the abs max rating even with clamp diodes, however it is possible and very unlikely to cause damage to the device.
