SN74LVC1G126: Output Current Capability

Part Number: SN74LVC1G126

The data sheet specifies an Absolute Maximum Rating for the continuous output current of +/-50 mA. Is there a peak pulse rating for the output current available? This part is used to drive a capacitive load so we are getting higher current on the transitions.

  • No, that limit must not be exceeded even for a short time.

You can add a series resistor to limit the current.

  • Clemens is correct, however there is a capacitive load for which this is considered "ok" - the datasheet specifies that the device is characterized for operating with a 50 pF load with 3.3 or 5V supply (PMI).

My recommendation would be to never exceed more than 150% of the rated load capacitance without adding a series current limiting resistor. In this case, you could go up to 75pF and expect to not see any problems.
