TI Team,

What makes SN74AXC2T245 more suitable for UART level translation than LSF0102?

I have browsed many E2E threads and videos on both parts - but I can find answer to that.

It is little confusing, especially as both parts are recommended for UART in device datasheets.

Please let me know,

The LSF is a bidirectional translator with open-drain outputs, so it uses more power (when the signal is low) and is slower. The AXC is more expensive and does not work at 5 V.

Hi Piotr,

To better answer your question:

LSF is more suited for bidirectional open-drain signals as it requires a pull-up to drive High for up-translation. Its completely passive in nature so it won't provide the best signals integrity.

AXC is buffered and can support the unidirectional signals of UART (specifically the 2T245 function being ideal for UART). It will provide better signal integrity.
