SN74LVC244A current consumption question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC244A

The SN74LVC244A datasheet says the following:

This octal buffer/line driver is operational at 1.5-V to 3.6-V V

CC, but is designed specifically for 1.65-V to 3.6-V VCC operation.

If I run this logic device with 3.3V input levels, and VCC at 1.8V... will this affect the current consumption. In other words, will the 3.3V input level cause increased current consumption?

Page 5 of the datasheet indicates 'No', but the parameters are 5.5V logic levels (or GND) and a VCC of 3.6V. I assume then that Vin of 3.3V and VCC = 1.8V would be similar.

Please confirm.

  • Using the part this way should have little affect on the current consumption.  When the input is above Vcc the current will not change as logn as you are in the recomended operating range, however if you run the input Vih below Vcc it will have extra current flow and is called Delt Icc.
