What does the "H" stand for? It appears the difference between these parts is the H version has Active bus-hold circuitry that is provided to hold unused or floating data inputs at a valid logic level. Use of pullup or pulldown resistors with the bus-hold circuitry is not recommended.

is this correct? any other differences? These two devices cannot therefore be considered as P2P alternatives, without unpopulation pull up resistors, correct?

Hey Carl,

Performance wise- these two devices are identical. The only difference between the AVCB164245GR and the AVCBH164245GR is that the "H" version includes additional circuitry on the input that eliminates the need for external pullup/pulldown resistors (meaning any unused inputs can be left floating).

In the schematic you have attached, it is acceptable to leave B7 and B9 left floating if the customer plans to use the AVCBH164245GR. It is also acceptable to connect the bus-hold input directly to ground. Here is an in-depth app note on bus hold circuitry.
