TXS0108 Level shifter

Hi,

I need some additionnal information about TXS0108 level shifter.

In our application, we need to be able to interface two type of modules in the same baseboard. One is supplied by 1,8V and the other by 3,3V. Since we want to have the same baseboard design,  we need to use level shifter for interfacing with peripherals such as SD Card, RS232 tranceiver, I2C bus ....

Thus we are interesting by TXS 0108 level shifter and we have the following questions:

1- On the same TXS0108 chip is it possible to have for example A1 and A2 as input and A3 and A4 as outputs or we must have A1-->A8 as input or as output at the same time ?

2- Is it working when VCCA = 3,3V = VCCB ?

3- Are they some problems when interfacing TXS0108 on I2C bus or RS232 bus (load impedance, speed, ...).

Thanks in advance.

Bertrand.

  • Hello Bertrand,

    1. The channels operate independently. So yes, you can have A1 as input and A3 as output.

    2. The device will operate correctly as long as VCCA ≤ VCCB and VCCA is <3.6V.

    3. The datasheet gives maximum data-rates for open drain and push pull external drivers.  I would recommend keeping the load impedance ~ 100pF or less. It will work fine for I2C and RS232 signals as long as these parameters are within the limits of the device.
