CD4015B: Confirmation to use the part for new designs. and availability of alternate parts & SPICE Models

Hi All,

We are planning to use CD4015BM in our new design. I have few questions as below

1. I could see this is the old part & is purchased from Harris Semi. So is this part recommended to use for new designs?

2. Can we have any alternate part for CD4015BM? My requirement is Single Serial In parallel Out 4 bit Shift register.

3. Can we get SPICE models for the part?

Need your help for above questions. Thanks in advance.

1. CD4000 is the only logic family for voltages above 5 V.

2. Just use any 8-bit shift register (SN74xxx595). If you really want only four bits, create a shift register from four flip-flops (e.g., SN74LV175A or CD40175B).

3. Devices with memory are hard to model. There are IBIS models. You can find design help in this forum.

2. I need only 4 bits.

One more question. I am not using Reset function of the part CD4015BM. So how it should be terminated? It should be pulled up to Vcc. Am I correct?

The logic diagram shows that the RESET input is active high, so you want to connect it to GND.

Shift registers without a separate storage register change all their outputs while shifting. Can your application really cope with that? If not, use a '595 shift register.

Yes , my application doesn't need any storing of values while shifting.
