Background: The growing need for level translation in automotive applications
As microcontrollers and processors have moved towards lower supply voltages (Vcc), there has been in increase in demand for level translators in order to interface between MCUs and external devices operating at varying I/O voltages. In a variety of these types of applications, customers have requirements for a logic function (such as AND, OR, XOR, XNOR, etc.) as well as a level translator. With board space becoming more limited, it has become increasingly difficult for customers to solve these types of system challenges with gates and multiple level translators.
Now, with TI Logic’s new LVxT family, logic functionality and level translation can be completed with a singular device:
- Single power supply up/down translation, reduces the number of supply rails required in system design
- Output level reference to the supply voltage (Vcc), supports 1.8-V, 2.5-V, 3.3-V, and 5.0-V CMOS levels
- Singular LVxT solution reduces BOM count and overall solution size
- No external pull-up/pull-down resistors required for translation
- Mixed Mode Operation: Inputs can be at different voltages, allowing for signals from different domains
