Good morning!
I received a few days ago a PDN (20230420004.3) for several Texas Instruments P/Ns with small packages that were becoming obsolete, for example P/N SN74HC138D.
The direct alternate for P/N SN74HC138D seems to be P/N SN74HC138DR, which has a 2500 tape and reel package.
At first I thought that was the only difference (changing from tube package to tape and reel package) but I have seen that the terminal platting is different also.
P/N SN74HC138D has a terminal platting of NiPdAu but SN74HC138DR has a terminal platting of NiPdAu|Sn. Is this correct?
I have also seen that P/Ns SN74HC138DRG4 and SN74HC138DRE4 have the same terminal platting as SN74HC138D (NiPdAu) and
have more stock and lower lead time.
Thank you in advance for the information!
"Sn | NiPdAu" means that there are multiple manufacturing sites that use different lead finishes, either Sn or NiPdAu. When you order such a part, you cannot control which one you get.
If you order G4, you always get NiPdAu. (There is no other difference.)
At the moment, SN74HC138DR has a much larger inventory:
