SN74AVC2T245: How to handle unused pins: tie high/low directly, or use a resistor?

Part Number: SN74AVC2T245

The datasheet for the SN74AVC2T245RSWR says to tie unused I/Os directly to ground.  Does that mean literally wiring them to GND, or should I make the connection through a resistor?  Many experienced engineers warn against tying pins high or low directly because unexpected things can happen during power-up, resets, etc. To avoid accidental damage, they tie unused pins high or low using a resistor (e.g. 10kOhm).

Thanks!
