Hello Team,

At first let me briefly introduce myself, my name is Aman Arab, I am in charge of our Global Component data referential at Schlumberger. As such, I am acting on behalf of SLB EMS tech centers.

We are in progress of qualifying the component SN74LVC1G14QDCKRQ1 for characterization test. We need your assistance with test circuit for capturing the Propagation delay. As of now, we have successfully completed the input positive & negative threshold voltage check as per datasheet.

Requesting your kind assistance in circuit setup for measuring the Propagation delay of SN74LVC1G14QDCKRQ1.

The input/output circuits and waveforms are described in section 7 of the datasheet.

Hello Clemens,

Yes, we have studied the datasheet. We want to know what kind of Devices (like Function Generator, Power Supply, etc) could be required to capture the Propagation delay values?

A simple circuit of the connection will help us.

The input signal is generated with a function generator; the input and output signals can be measured with an oscilloscope.

Can you please advise what should be the Input signal type for the function generator if this should be "Square Wave, Sine Wave" etc. We tried it using the method as you suggested but we are getting the distorted output OR the Propagation delay is showing in millisecond OR second which seems the false measurement.

The waveforms are described in section 7. You should output a square wave between 0 V and V_CC.

Hello Clemens,

Here is the output waveform we observed. As you see the Output waveform is quite distorted. Can you please let me know how to measure the propagation value based on below output.

First, this looks like ringing in the oscilloscope probes. Ensure that you are using a ground spring instead of a ground clip.

In any case, use the first (largest) edge.

Thanks for the idea, the waveform are comparatively stable now.

Could you please also help me with the measurement for output High & Low voltage (voh &vol) with circuit connections.

Connect a constant-current source/sink for the output's test condition, and measure the voltage.
Alternatively, connect a constant voltage, and measure the current, which should be at least as high as the test condition.
Alternatively, connect a load resistor of R_OL = (V_CC − V_OL) / I_OL between the output and V_CC, or R_OH = V_OH / I_OH between the output and GND, and measure the voltage.

Hello Clemens,

Could you please specify, do I need to connect the Constant-current source/sink at the output (y) of the device. Also, could you please let me know the logical reason behind applying the Constant-current source/sink at output pin of IC.

Do you have graphs related SN74LVC1G14-Q1?

- VOH vs IOH

- VOL vs IO

- Propagation delay

In section 6.5, a certain output current is the test condition for measuring the output voltage drop. The constant-current source/sink would be a mechanism to match this test condition. (But the other two measurement circuit are likely to be easier.)

For the output characteristics, see figures 16/17 of Input and Output Characteristics of Digital Integrated Circuits at 3.3-V Supply Voltage. For the propagation delay, see figures 3/4/5 of LVC Characterization Information.
