SN74LVCH16T245: Correct way to interface an open drain interrupt to a bus-hold input (not recommended is different than not forbidden)

Part Number: SN74LVCH16T245
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC16T245

I have an existing design that uses the bus-hold '245 part as a level shifter.  I would like to drive one of the inputs with an open drain driver but using a pullup resistor is not recommended in the datasheet.  I suspect this is because of power consumption reasons during the time the bus hold fights against the pullup resistor. The intended input is tied to infrequent status changes, not a clock or bus signal.  Maximum conceivable frequency is in the 3kHz range.
My input power rail is 3.3V, which means IBHLO max of 500uA.  If I size the pullup so it provides at least 200uA at Vih (2V)  will that be sufficient to always switch the input?  4.7kΩ would be a practical value.
Is there some other reason I should avoid this approach?  I'd like to avoid a respin of the PCB, but only if I understand all the tradeoffs I am making.
