Dear team,

I kindly request you to let me know the difference between TCA9517-Q1 and TXB0102-Q1/TXS0102-Q1 and please confirm if TXB0102-Q1 and TXS0102-Q1 can be used for I2C, as it is specifically mentioned in TCA9517-Q1 that it can be used for I2C.

The TXB cannot be used for I²C.

The TCA9517-Q1 is a level shifter and buffer; the TXS0102-Q1 is only a level shifter. The TXS has edge accelerators that allow much higher speeds, but their triggering mechanism is more sensitive to noise.

What is the actual problem you're trying to solve? What is the bus capacitance, i.e., how long are the traces/cables?

Hello Clemens,

Thanks for the feedback.

We are in the process of finalizing the parts for our design, and considering few aspects, we wanted to know if TX* series can be used for I2C or no.

Also, we would like to know the difference between TXB, TXS and CAXC2T/4T series of level translators. Here, wanted to understand if CAX can be replaced with TXB/TXS for RMII signals and few control signals.

The TXS can be used for I²C. See its datasheet for its limitations.

Hey Mayur,

The CAXC2T/4T would be the better choice for translating signals that are fixed direction per channel over the TXB/TXS due to the buffering architecture of the AXC family (there also aren't additional design considerations like TXB/ TXS have).

You may also share a block diagram of your application including system requirements (VCC translating to and from, data rate needed, timing requirement, etc.) to further recommend a more suitable translator.
