SN54SC6T06-SEP: Pulling up to greater than VCC

Part Number: SN54SC6T06-SEP

Hello,

I am trying to level translate from 1.8V to 5V. This device is listed as an open-drain output, but the recommended operating conditions say to run the output of the device between 0 and VCC.

Since the device is high-impedance on a logic-level high, would there be any reason that we shouldn't be able to pull the output up to 5V, but power the translator from 3.3V?

We want power the device with 3.3V and provide 1.8V on the input.

Thank you,

Zack
