SN74ALVC164245: genuine or fake?

Part Number: SN74ALVC164245

Hi,

can you help me with checking the SN74ALVC164245ZRDR? I have some de-soldered samples that has very low operating temperature. Temperature over 50°C shout down outputs on 2B1 and 2B2 from ~5 V to 0,2 V. It start working after cooling down (under 40°C).

Please see image in attachement. You can see marking code: VC4245 and 3AC6TFTG1 on each sample. Are those markings OK?

  • Hi Marvin,

I doubt genuine for ALVC as I do not see SN74ALVC164245ZRDR in the system nor in the below from the datasheet, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • VC4245 is a valid marking for the ZRD package. It was discontinued in 2019, so it is no longer supported.

As far as I can see, no competitor has offered the 74ALVC164245 in a BGA package, so these are likely to be genuine.

  • Thanks Michael Ikwuyum and Clemens Ladisch. I know it's discontinued part-number. But my question was about validity of marking. "VC4245" is valid - OK, and what about "3AC6TFTG1"?

    Please see:

    /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/151/How-to-identify-STC-_2600_-LTC.PDF

    So... 3AC6TFTG1:

    1. char: 3 = 2003 year

    2. char: A = October

Did Texas Instruments make these chips at this time? And what about other chars - Lot-Trace Code? Can someone check validity?

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hi Marvin,

Unfortunately, I double checked with two additional internal systems with no information available per the provided LTC. Hence, can not further confirm the timeline the chips were made since it is not showing in the system. You may also check the shipping label with the seal dates to give an idea or further check with the sales contact per how units were purchased.

However, it is questioning how a 20+ year unit would be used from 2003 due to being out of warranty. Hence, please also note char 3 would most likely be 2023 year. If so, it would seem to be invalid per internal TI systems not pulling any information, thanks.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.

  • Hi Michael,

Thank for information. First release was in 1994, so char 3 can mean really 2003, 2013 and 2023, but 2023 should be invalid because this part was discontinued in 2019 as described by Clements. We deal with advertised circuits from which we no longer have the label from the package and so we only catch the descriptions on the circuits. We know from our system that we stacked the circuits on 9/2023. But we don't know when the circuits were made.

Most likely it's a fake, but I was hoping someone could check the Lot-Trace Code in some TI.com database to be sure.

Circuits that contain an undocumented number in the label may be traceable by the manufacturer. If the number is not in the manufacturer's database, then it's clear. I have already used this service with another manufacturer - based on a photo, he confirmed the mismatch in the label.

    Thanks

  • look like refurbished parts!
