TXV0106: Data rate clarification for RGMII

Hi, our application will be translating an RGMII 1 GbE interface from 1.2V to 1.8V. I see a statement in the datasheet that says the following:

Does this mean an RGMII 250 Mbps line rate (for 1 GbE) can not be achieved in our application?

    Hi Andrew,

    Please note that it is saying device can support up to 500 Mbps but may not meet RGMII spec (rise/fall time, duty cycle) at 500 Mbps and will need to be reduced to 250 Mbps for RGMII specs.

    Hence, it means it can be achieved for RGMII 250 Mbps. See referenced spec below, thanks.

    Thanks Michael. I wasn't sure if the sentence on RGMII at 250 Mbps included the same constraint on the voltage translation from 1.65 to 3.6 V. Just confirming, this voltage translation constraint only applies to the 500 Mbps comment?

    Hi Andrew,

    The constraint is for the rise and fall times as they may increase as data rate increase. Hence, the rise and fall time RGMII spec is specified for 250 Mbps and if device works for 1.65 V to 3.6 V at 500 Mbps in general, lower Mbps is for no constraints, thanks.
