"M" indicates the SOIC package; "96" is the size of the reel; "G4" has no meaning nowadays (see [FAQ] Why does a logic device's part number have an E4/G4 suffix?). The chips are identical.
The marking for chips sold now is "HC393M". I'd guess you have an older one.

What does it mean instead " 38Z1TCJ "? Does it indicate the production batch?
The datasheet says:
There may be additional marking, which relates to the logo, the lot trace code information, or the environmental category on the device.
