Can we use the SN74ALVCH244PWR device as voltage level translator for 3.3V to 1.8V?

The application is control lines of 3.3v SFP transceiver to 1.8V Host inputs.

The input signals are 3.3V while the VCC is 1.8V thus, the outputs signals will be 1.8V.

The source of the input signals may be an open drain buffer with external pull up resistor.

Does device the SN74ALVCH244PWR can support this application? is it a recommended operation conditions ?

This device has overvoltage-tolerant inputs, so it can indeed be used to translate to a lower volate.

If you have open-drain signals, it would be easier to just pull them up to the desired voltage.

Hi Moshe,

If the inputs to the buffer are open drain it would be better to just pull them up to your 1.8V VCC source and forgo the buffer entirely.

However if you are set on using a buffer for other reasons and are working at 1.8V VCC then I would recommend the AUC244 instead given no other knowledge:
