DRV8874:review

Part Number: DRV8874

Tool/software:

In order to control the forward or reverse direction of motor(mb3657-2465e, 24V), I applied DRV8874 and designed it as shown in the figure below.

I only designed it based on the datasheet. Please review if there is any mistake.

If you have any know-how for a more stable design, please let me know.

  • Hello,

    The schematic looks good.

As long as the MAIN_3V3 does not change voltage there should be no issues with nFAULT pin.

Are you only driving in the forward and reverse directions for a short period of time, or are you driving 5A continuously for an extended period of time?

Are you using PWM signals on any inputs, if so, at what frequency?

This would be good to know to help with power dissipation calculations to better predict thermal performance.

    Best,

    David

  • Considering the driving current of the motor, it is set to 5A, and the normal range will be less than 2A. It mainly operates in the forward direction, and when it determines that something has been caught, it operates in the reverse direction slightly.

I plan to control it with PWM, and what is the most ideal frequency for my situation?

  • Hello,

Gotcha. This schematic and operation sound good. The device has a maximum of 100kHz. It would depend on the application, however, to be out of the audible range, operating around 20kHz is suggested.

    Best,

    David
