SN74LVC4245A: The SN74LVC4245APWR Version A is not functioning properly, while Version B works as expected. Could you explain what updates or changes were made between Version A and Version B of this device?

Part Number: SN74LVC4245A

Tool/software:

Hello,

We are using the SN74LVC4245A in one of our consumer products and noticed that there appear to be two versions: Version A and Version B. We've already ordered thousands of each. However, we’ve observed that Version A has inconsistent performance, while Version B functions flawlessly.

Could you clarify the differences between these two versions? Is there a spec sheet outlining the variations? Additionally, should we discontinue the use of Version A?

Thank you for your assistance.

  • There is no device named "SN74LVC4245B". How exactly are you identifying versions A and B?

PCN#20221219007.1 introduced an entirely new die. The guaranteed datasheet limits have not changed, but it is possible that your circuit relies on undocumented behaviour. What exactly is that "inconsistent performance"? Can you relate it to the performance guarantees in the datasheet?

  • Same part number, different revisions on packaging slip

  • Hi Mohsen,

Similar to Clemens' feedback, data sheet revision clarifies thermal info was the only update between the two options.

Unfortunately, impedance is not specified due to not being a true sign of failure. Hence (if additional clarification needed), please help further clarify if any gap in data sheet spec, as device still meets data sheet specifications.

    Best Regards,

    Michael.
