TXB0102: Level shifter issue

Part Number: TXB0102
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXU0202

Tool/software:

Dear [Recipient],

We are working on a project where we need to convert a 3.3V signal to 5V using your IC, part number TXB0102DCUR. This is being used for UART communication at a baud rate of 9600.

We are facing issues with the output waveform and input waveform, which I have attached in the image. We also grounded the OE pin after powering on the circuit, and later connected it to 3.3V.

Could you please review this issue and provide guidance on how we can resolve the waveform discrepancies?

Looking forward to your prompt response.

  • Hi Haresh,

The TXB0102 being an auto-bidirectional translator will not perform well when paired with long cabling/ high capacitive output loads. Please ensure that the cables/connectors at the outputs are kept to a minimum to achieve optimal signal integrity.

If not possible, TXU0102DCU can be used as drop-in replacement providing Schmitt-Trigger inputs and higher DC drive strength.

    Regards,

    Jack

  • Could you please tell me what the maximum length of wire should be when using the TXB0102?

  • This depends on the capacitance of the cable and of all other traces and devices. The total capacitance should be less than 70 pF.

You really should use the TXU0202.
