SN74LVC2G04: RC Oscillator

Part Number: SN74LVC2G04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC2G14, SN74LVC1GX04

Tool/software:

Hi

I'm trying to design a RC Occillator using SN74LVC2G04.
By the way, when I looked it up through Google, I saw that RC Oscillator can only do certain inverters. Is there a separate suite of inverters suitable for RC oscillator?
Do you have any reference material when implementing RC oscillator?

Thanks

  • To be able to handle slow edges, you need Schmitt-trigger inverters like the SN74LVC2G14.

A crystal oscillator uses the inverter as an analog amplifier; for this, you would need an unbuffered inverter like the SN74LVC1GX04. But this is not necessary for an R-C oscillator.

The input switching thresholds of logic devices have large tolerances. If you care about accuracy, use a comparator instead (see this example). (But an R-C oscillator is not very accurate anyway.)
