SN74LV273A: Partial Power Down (Ioff)

Part Number: SN74LV273A

Tool/software:

Hi

We have an old design where with SN74LV273A on our PCBA. To further reduce powerr consumption in SHUTDOWN and idle mode we want to turn this IC off and put the pins into high impdeance

We already use TPS22930 load switch in our design and I want to add one extra to control VCC on/off, but in the SN74LV237A datasheet it says:

8.3.3 Partial Power Down (Ioff) This device includes circuitry to disable all outputs when the supply pin is held at 0 V. When disabled, the outputs will neither source nor sink current, regardless of the input voltages applied. The amount of leakage current at each output is defined by the Ioff specification in the Electrical Characteristics table.

if we use TPS22930 it will not hold the supply pin at 0V, but it will be floating. Is that OK, or will I have to add a weak pull down on the VCC input pin?

kind regards

Øystein

  • Hi Øystein,

To benefit from the Ioff feature, VCC must be held at 0V, so the pull down would be necessary. That being said, in your design, are you expecting a voltage to be applied at the output pins? If there is no voltage on the output pins when TPS22930 is off, then the Ioff feature is not necessary and you can just leave VCC pin floating.

    Best,
