SN74LVC2G06: Clamp current

Part Number: SN74LVC2G06

Tool/software:

What is meant by "Output Clamp Current"?

I would assume that it would be the current through the protection diodes on the output stage, but it is only specified for Vo<0, so I presume that it must be the current through the clamp diode to Vss.

Is there a clamp diode to Vdd? If so, what is its maximum current? If Vdd=5V then would allowing current through that diode exceed the maximum output voltage rating? Would it be better to clamp the output to Vdd with a Schottky diode?

  • Little-logic LVC devices have Ioff, i.e., inactive outputs do not have a clamping diode to VCC. (Active outputs are directly connected to VCC or GND.) If you want to clamp external voltages to VCC, then you have to use an external diode.
