SN74LVC1G11: RC FILTER ON OUTPUT?

Part Number: SN74LVC1G11

Tool/software:

Hi Everyone,

Using SN74LVC1G11 to feed an RC network - R = 22Ohm, C = 470pF - this will result in peak current of VCC/22 = 5/22 = 227mA for a very short time.

Will this high peak current allowable? will we need to increase R to limit the current? what is the maximum PEAK current this logic circuit can provide for a short time?

Thank you.

  • Hello,

There is no peak current rating for the device, however it is rated to handle a short circuit to a 50pF load at the output - beyond that we can't make any guarantees for reliability if you exceed the absolute maximum ratings (in this case, 50mA). I would suggest adjust your filter to have less capacitance and more resistance -- 220Ω + 47pF would give the same corner frequency while keeping the current within the limits.
