SN74HCU04:Maximum instantaneous current

Part Number: SN74HCU04
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN74LVC1GX04, SN74HC04

Tool/software:

The Continuous output current of the SN74HCU04 is ±25mA, and the Continuous current through VCC or GND is ±50mA.

Could you please provide the maximum ratings for pulse current output?

I would like to use it in a 200kHz clock generation circuit, so what is the maximum rating for the ON/OFF switching time (approximately 10ns)?

The input voltage is 5V.

  • Those are absolute maximum ratings, i.e., you must design your circuit so that these limits are not exceeded. There is no different limit for short pulses.

Are you asking for the input or output switching time?

The SN74HCU04 has six gates, which is more than you typically need. Consider the SN74LVC1GX04.

  • Thank you for your answer.

Although it is an absolute maximum rating, it is stated as "Continuous" output current.

Is it correct to assume that the pulse rating is also 25mA?

Additionally, is the short-term absolute maximum rating for the SN74HC04 also ±25mA?

  • The outputs can be connected to capacitive loads of up to 70 pF. For larger capacitances or continuous currents, you have to respect the current limit.

What is the actual problem you're trying to solve?
