SN74AVC2T245: Excess ICC and ICCZ.

Hi,

The SN74AVC2T245 has a note in the datasheet that says "The input circuitry on both A and B ports always is active and must have a logic HIGH or LOW level applied to prevent excess ICC and ICCZ." Unfortunately, we have a completed design that has the B-side input ports floating. What is the risk of the excess ICC and ICCZ? Is there a chance of damage or reduced reliability, or should we just expect some increased amount of current draw?

Hello Matthew,

For more information on floating inputs and risks, please see this FAQ How does a slow or floating input affect a CMOS device? There is a possibility both FETs could be on and create a "short" from VCC to ground.

Is it possible to replace the AVC2T245 with the AXC2T245? It's a pin-to-pin replacement with integrated pull-down resistors on the inputs. Should help resolve any excess ICC/ICCZ.
