SN74AUP1G17: SN74AUP1G17 ability to drive 40pF capacitance

Part Number: SN74AUP1G17

Tool/software:

Have a design using an SN74AUP1G17 as a buffer in a 3.3V UART signal path (Buffering remote TX to local micro).

PCB assembly was completed, but series damping resistor was NOT included.  The buffer is causing overshoot and and undershoot at the MCU, peak of approximately 3.9v where the MCU max on an IO is VDD+0.3 (so 3.6v).  To save existing PCBs we were looking at adding capacitance to the signal trace to reduce the risetime and overshoot.  40pF does this and brings the overshoot within the MCUs limits.

UART speed:  115200

Cap to gnd on signal:  40pF

Is there concern with device damage attempting to drive the 40pF?

Thanks,
