Regarding the TTL output: that diode is inside the device. There is no easy way to build this in your own circuit. If you need to translate a voltage, just use a voltage translator.
Regarding the SN74LV14A: this will work. (Any 3.3 V CMOS output can be connected directly to a 3.3 V CMOS input.)
