SN54SC4T00-SEP: Part Alternatives: SCxT vs ACT Technology Families

Part Number: SN54SC4T00-SEP

Tool/software:

Hi there,

I am working on a design which will use the SN54SC4T00-SEP for its rad-tol features. However, I am considering using the SN74ACT00PWR as an alternative in a prototype build.

I have done a line-by-line review of the datasheets and believe the SN74 should envelope my operating levels, but can tell that it is a functionally different part and is not from the same technology family.

Can someone explain the difference between the SCxT and ACT technology families? I want to understand what similarities I will be sacrificing by using the SN74ACT00PWR for a prototype application, or if there is a more suitable alternative part.

Thank you!

  • Hi Owen,

For prototyping the SN74ACT should work if you are not using the level shifting capabilities in the SN54ACxT device. This is the main difference between these parts. If you are just using it as a NAND gate without any different voltage levels, SN74 will work fine.
