TPLD1202: Regarding serial-to-parallel conversion

My understanding is that the serial communication of the TPLD1202 is primarily used for writing to the registers of the TPLD1202.

Is there any plan to release a TPLD model that could also be used for serial-to-parallel conversion?

Information about the serial communication for the TPLD1202 can be found in This Document. An example of an IO expander is shown in Figure 5. Does this help? Let me know if you're interested in a specific use case.
