Hello:

I want to use the logic IC to implement the buffer or mux function, but the most data sheeet don't clearly indicate the parameter about the data seepd or bandwidth.

How to evaluate the data speed of logic IC ?

My requirement is to run video at 148.5M Hz clock thourgh a 20 bit logic IC.

I want to use the SN74ALVCH162827 to implement the buffer and mux function.  can SN74ALVCH162827 run at 148.5MHz clock  ?

 

 

  • The easiest way is to find a part in that family theat has a clock. For instance ALVCH16374. If you look up FMax for this part it is 150Mhz.

    However the ALVCH162827 has series resistors that will slow the edge rate and affect the Fmax. So I think the part will be borderline whether it works at 148 Mhz or not.

    Fmax can be calculated from output rise and fall time. This is not specd since it will depend on the load conditions.

    If you were to use the non resistor part (SN74ALVCH16827) then the answer is yes it will work. but if you use the resistor part (SN74ALVCH162827) then it is questionable whether it will work or not

    In other word, if we don't consider the load conditon, the Fmax is only depended on RC, where R is Ron and C is parasitic capacitance, isn't it ?

    if we want to use IBIS to evluate the Fmax, is it feasible ?

    IBIS would be a good way to get rise and fall times which could be converted into Fmax.
