SN74LV07A: SN74LV07A damaged on several PCBAs

Part Number: SN74LV07A

Tool/software:

Used SN74LV07A buffer IC on a tester circuit for vendor; recently had a case where 4 PCBAs were not working and analysis for all 4 points to damaged SN74LV07A; boards worked properly after replacing the part.

Signal that goes into the IC is 3.3V (peak to peak) 8 kHz square wave.

From the datasheet I found this:

10.2.1 Design Requirements This device uses CMOS technology and is open drain, so it has low output drive only. Care should be taken to avoid bus contention, because it can drive currents that would exceed maximum limits. Parallel output drive can create fast edges into light loads, so routing and load conditions should be considered to prevent ringing.

Can you advise on the possible scenario why the part will be damaged and how to address it - ie. is there a suggested replacement?

Thank you
