TXS0108 Level translator

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0108, TXS0102

Hi

Do we require PULL UP resistor, when we are using TXS0108 for level translator operation? since it has mentioned that "VOLTAGE-LEVEL TRANSLATOR FOR OPEN-DRAIN AND PUSH-PULL APPLICATIONS".

Warm Regards

  • It is my understanding that you need a pull up on both the sides on of the level shifter. That being said, I'm having a lot of trouble with my board, so it may be worthwhile to wait until someone else responds.

  • TXS0108 has integrated pull-up resistors to save board space and cost in open-drain applications. Please refer "Pullup or Pulldown Resistors on I/O Lines" section (page 13 of 23 in datasheet) for more information.

This is the response which i have received from the support...

  • I realize that this has been answered and has been dormant for some time, but I wanted to make a more definative answer:

The TXS0108 Does NOT need external pullup resistors. The TXS0108 is intended for high drain devices and external pullups will cause problems.

Integrating the pullups into the chip is the main differerance between the TXS0108 and TXB0108.

For the sake of search ability, this is the same for the TXS0102, TXS0104, TXS0106.

If you need more info on level translating I strongly recommend the video: Texas Instruments: Selecting the Right Voltage-Level Translator.

The video is very informative, and the girl is nice on the eyes ;-)
