SN74HC157: Higher output drive current version

Hi team,

I notice that in datasheet, it shows that SN74HC157 has +/-6mA output drive capability at 5V. However, the continuous output current in EC table is +/-35mA? What's the specific difference between these two values?

If customer wants to select a higher output drive P/N which is higher than 20mA, other specs are the similar. What is your recommendation? My question is that in datasheet of other devices, there is no description on output drive current. Thanks!

    Output drive capability is related to maintaining valid logic levels at the output of the device. For example, the SN74HC157 is tested to be able to support 6mA of output drive current and still maintain almost 5V at the output at 5V VCC:

    Higher currents than 6mA from the output will result in larger voltage drops. You can drive a maximum of 35mA through a single pin without damaging it, but that output will likely not be at 5V/whatever your VCC is. Please let me know if this explanation makes sense.
