SN74ACT8541: Datasheet Clarification

Part Number: SN74ACT8541

There is a requirement for input transition rate of 20 ns/V called out in the datasheet. I thought the Schmitt trigger inputs made it so the input speed did not matter. Is this requirement purely to reduce power consumption? Or could violating this cause device damage and/or output oscillation?

  • Also noticed a couple other parts of the datasheet that I hope to get some clarification on. On page 1 under applications, it mentions level shifting with open drain outputs. This device isn't open drain correct? Also, under the Input Considerations on page 10 where it describes what is considered a LOW or HIGH signal, it does not call out the parameters that must be crossed. Would that be Vt-_min and Vt+_max?

  • Hi Blaine,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It looks like there's an issue with the datasheet. You can ignore the input transition rate limitation and description of open drain outputs. This device can tolerate slow inputs without issue.
