SN74LVC1G97-Q1: output peak current capability

Part Number: SN74LVC1G97-Q1

Hello experts,

what is the peak current capability of the outputs of SN74LVC1G97-Q1? The datasheet only provides a continuous current (+/-50mA).

The use case is a capacitor (1nF), which gets discharged (3.3V if loaded), when the output of the device is asserted to low.

Currently customer has implemented resistor to limit the current (47 Ohm currently), but would like to decrease it to 10 Ohm.

The peak current with 10 Ohm resistor is at 87mA, when also taking into account the internal resistance of the gate of ~28 Ohm accordign to datasheet.

If this the 28Ohm cannot be considered on top, the peak current would be 330mA.

Unfortunately the datasheet also does not provide the dynamic thermal impedance, it is hard to take a conclusion, if this is OK or not.

Thanks for your support and advise!

Michael

  • Hi Michael,

We don't have any testing for peak current capability, so there's no useful judgement we can provide here.

The only thing we can say is exceeding the absolute maximum continuous output current (50mA) or total current (100mA) ratings might damage the device. We recommend leaving a resistor large enough to limit the output current such that it will not exceed 50mA.

    Best,

    Malcolm
