SN7400: SN74HC04PWR

Part Number: SN7400

Customer questioning part markings he recieved for SN74HC04PWR.
Here is their inquiry and pictures, I see the part marking should have HC04 but customer is suspecting this is counterfeit. Please advise.

"The makings look very suspect. Suspect counterfeit parts. The centering of the IC marking is not constant part to part. There is no TI logo and markings are not up to the normal quality of TI. The pin 1 marking is also different. and the orientation of the text to pin 1 is different then the TI genuine parts. Regardless of concerns I swap one into a working product and on power up, it immediately blew the power fuse on my device. only the 1 part was removed from the cut tape. Note I have a picture of the parts from the past lot to show what the markings should look like that I can provide"

Hi Mitchell,

The part markings do not necessarily point towards a counterfeit. Where were these devices purchased, and what is the lot number written on the reel? I will look into it.

Hi Mitchell,

DigiKey is a licensed distributor, so I would be quite surprised if these were counterfeit. Let me look into this internally to see what may have changed with this lot.

In the meantime, are you able to share a schematic where this device is being used or a waveform of the failure?

I've spoken to my team about this matter. If there is concern about counterfeit product or quality issues, you or the customer must start a return request from the Customer Returns page. This will start the process of investigating the cause of the issue and figuring out whether it is a counterfeit part, a quality issue, user error, or some other cause.
