Hello, I am planning to use two SN74AHC595 shift registers in parallel, using the same controller pins (SER, RCLK and SRCLK). Can I operate these shift registers at the same time?

Connected parallelly, pin by pin or representing some parallel data?

Hello,

I mean that I want to use two SN74AHC595 ICs to obtain 16 different outputs using the same RCLK and SRCLK signals. The same serial interface communication lines can control both separate ICs.

When all controll inputs, including SER, are connected in parallel, then all chips will output the same signals. This is usually not useful.

The '595 is designed to allow cascading, i.e., connecting the Q_H' output to the SER input of the next chip. This gives you 16 controllable outputs.
